We've just received a message from Kim Paterson, the Sports Development Officer from Moray Council. Kim is also the sec of WalkJogRun Moray, a group who promote walking, jogging and running in all its forms. We've been invited to participate in a Moray version of the Olympic Torch relay and Moravian would be doing the leg between Miltonduff and Rafford (10 miles) on Tuesday 12th June.
We could involve anyone from the club, no matter how fast (or how far) they want to go. I guess the more people who take part the shorter the legs).
Apart from being great fun, it sound like a wonderful opportunity to help advertise our club as one which promotes running jogging and walking all in one. As this involves no orienteering expertise, it would be great if one of our newer members could co-ordinate our 'team'. Anyway, please read Kim's message below and please reply with your thoughts. If the response is positive watch this space for more info.

I hope you are well and looking forward to the weekend. Walk, Jog, Run Moray have identified various ideas to help celebrate the Olympics next year for the Moray area. One of the proposed ideas is a Moray Olympic Torch Relay, due to the fact that Moray has been omitted from the official torch relay route when it tours around Scotland (apart from Tomintoul!).
Walk, Jog, Run Moray have provisionally drafted a route for this event taking in the main towns and villages that have walk, jog and/or run groups/clubs. From the attachment (note from Mike - sorry, it's not attached) you will also see that the 113 mile route has been broken down into 10mile sections. Due to the potential size of this event it makes sense to break the route down into these manageable sections and to identify people who could be responsible for particular sections as it would be a mammoth task for one sole individual to take responsibility. As you can also see from the attached document, Nick Brown has provisionally identified key individuals who may be willing to take on this responsibility for the sections. Firstly I would like you to reply to inform me whether you would be happy to be involved, if not can you provide names/suggestions of other people that may be able to assist with this high profile event. Secondly if you are keen to be involved/lead a section then we aim to meet for 1hr after the Winter 5k event in Elgin on Sun 4th Dec from 3-4pm to discuss what would be involved in being responsible for a particular section etc. We have circulated this proposal to the Active Schools team within the Moray Council and they are keen to lead the organisation of schools getting involved in relevant sections.
For your info the dates identified for this event coincide with when the official torch is travelling round Scotland.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kim Paterson
Secretary of Walk, Jog, Run Moray
