Moray will have its own ‘Olympic torch bearing’ event in June, since it appears to be omitted from the official route (which goes from Lewis direct to Aberdeen 11/6/12). A number of walkers, joggers, and runners – 2,012 of them - will take an officially recognised torch around the perimeter of Moray and visit as many of our key towns and villages as possible. The proposed 113-mile route will take in most of the main towns and villages of Moray. The event is likely to get a lot of local publicity and involves all running/jogging groups in Moray as well as Active Schools.
Nikki Howard and Frances Britain are co-ordinating Moravian's leg on 12th June which will see us take the torch from Miltonduff to Rafford where it will be handed to Jog Scotland Forres. Exactly how it will all happen remains to be seen, but we expect that Active Schools will be involved and it looks like a great opportunity for all our juniors - of all ages - to play their part. We'll be looking for members to run/jog/walk a small section of the route and no doubt we'll need people with cars to support it all, dropping people off at handover points along the route. The intention is to involve local schools along the route, which in our case means Miltonduff and Dallas. For the schools sections, it's envisaged that the whole school will carry the torch round their school playing field and for a short section either side of the school. The majority of the route will be done by adult runners.
This info is all we have at the time of writing (22nd December) but watch this space as the story unfolds!
