Piping Hot Forres is the Brand Name for the 2013 European Pipe Band Championships which will be staged in Grant Park, Forres, on this very day. Over 120 of the world's best pipe band will be competing, and the spectacular massed pipe band finale, with over 5,000 pipes and drums will send shivers down your spine.

Piping Hot Dog-O in Scottish Orienteering's contribution to the action. This is a fun score event where dogs are NOT optional! Forget dog bans, and dogs in the car park only. Dogs are COMPULSORY. But if there's some demand, backed up by bribery, we might just be persuaded to let orienteers loose on their own, but in a separate lepers category....  a maximum score is certainly possible "sans chien" but whether your average human can sniff out the bonus control (see below) is debatable!

From your pampered pooch to the Filth Hounds of Hades, Piping Hot Dog-O is where the action's at. Registration and the finish is at the footpath entrance off Clovenside Road (near the police station) as shown on this map. The start is a 5-minute walk near the old cemetery inside the woods.

This will be organised, run and publicised in aid of animal charities by a group of non-orienteers, supported by the local pet food supplier Pearl's Pet Care, Forres Dog Walking, Tail Talk and Burgie Agility Dogs. It is staged with the asistance of Mike in his Regional Development Officer role.

We mean it - dogs are compulsory! No dog, no go. Any orienteers caught out on the course not in possession of a dog will be charged with bringing the game in to disrepute.

We will be sharing the park with 10,000 - 15,000 members of the public and those 5,000 pipers and drummers so this will be an unmissable event! More than your normal apres-o entertainment on hand.

What's more the Pipe Band Championships will be returning to Forres on the last Saturday in June in both 2014 and 2015. Do have a browse of the web site via the link at the bottom of the page.

As well as normal controls, there will be a smelly control worth a massive 300 points. No circle on the map, or any great big obvious red and white kite to mark where it is. Just an irresistable odour that only man's best friend will be able to sniff out. Does your hound have a nose for the job?
