Organiser's report - Darnaway 2012
Darnaway 2012 Organiser’s Report
The day was a huge success again with a large entry including some of Britain’s most talented orienteers. We were extremely fortunate to be able to use Conicaval Hall again and to also have the ladies of Dyke Primary School PTA making soup, coffee and cakes for us. A huge “thanks” to Lord Moray for allowing us to use both his estate and the hall. It was lovely to see him with his family at the event and they managed to successfully navigate their way around a yellow course.
The day went without hitch due in large part to all the people who kindly volunteered their time to act as helpers on the day. This ensured that everything ran smoothly and there were no significant hitches. Particular thanks to Paul Stitson for giving up his whole Sunday and helping with the computing. Separating the main organising from the entries was a good decision and made the workload manageable for both myself and Margaret – a great team I am sure everyone will agree!
The day could not have been the success that it was without the time and effort given by both George Paterson as the planner, and Chris Spencer as controller. Planning an event of this size with so many courses is a great skill and takes a lot of time. I am sure everyone will agree with me that the courses were excellent and enjoyable (although I do think they could have made my Green course slightly easier!!)
We can all sit down and relax now and look forward to the next fixture.
